Chekke Palya ( Raw Jackfruit Fry )

Chekke Palya is a popular South Indian dish made with raw jackfruit and spices. Here is a recipe for making Chekke Palya:


  1. 1 kg of raw jackfruit, peeled and cut into bite-sized pieces
  2. 1 onion, chopped
  3. 2 garlic cloves, minced
  4. 1 inch ginger, minced
  5. 2 green chilies, sliced
  6. 1 tsp of turmeric powder
  7. 1 tsp of red chili powder
  8. 1 tsp of coriander powder
  9. Salt to taste
  10. 2 tbsp of oil


In a large pan, heat the oil and add the chopped onions, garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Cook until the onions are translucent.

Add the jackfruit pieces to the pan and cook for a few minutes.

Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt to the pan and mix well.

Cook for 10-15 minutes or until the jackfruit is fully cooked and tender.

Serve hot with steamed rice.
