India's Coffee Production Set to Rise in 2025, Says Piyush Goyal
India’s coffee industry is poised for significant growth this year, with Union Minister Piyush Goyal announcing optimistic projections for increased production. Speaking at a recent event, the minister attributed this upward trend to favourable weather conditions, advancements in cultivation techniques, and targeted government initiatives aimed at supporting coffee farmers.
The coffee sector in India, particularly in states like Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, has witnessed a surge in productivity. The government's continued focus on modernizing agricultural practices and providing financial aid to small-scale farmers has played a pivotal role in this growth. Export-oriented policies have also boosted India's coffee trade, making it a key player in the global market.
According to Goyal, measures such as subsidies for fertilizers, promotion of sustainable farming practices, and investments in research and development have empowered farmers to enhance both the quality and quantity of their coffee crops. The rise in production is expected to cater not only to domestic consumption but also to strengthen India’s position as a prominent coffee exporter.
The minister highlighted that with global demand for coffee on the rise, India has a unique opportunity to capitalize on its diverse coffee varieties, including its famed Arabica and Robusta beans. Efforts to enhance the branding and marketing of Indian coffee internationally are expected to further elevate its reputation and profitability.
As the coffee sector flourishes, Piyush Goyal emphasized the importance of ensuring fair prices and adequate support for farmers. By balancing increased production with sustainable practices and equitable growth, India is on track to set new benchmarks in the global coffee industry.
